A French-speaking Belgian apéro board where cheese and charcuterie are softened by sweet accents: figs, grapes, dried apricots, nuts and little pots of honey or jam.

Serves: 8 people

Preparation time: 30 min

Ingredients

  • Assorted cheeses – 500 g
  • Serrano ham – 80 g
  • Prosciutto – 80 g
  • Bresaola – 80 g
  • Fresh figs – 4
  • Grapes – 250 g
  • Dried apricots – 120 g
  • Mixed nuts – 100 g
  • Honey – 1 small bowl
  • Jam or chutney – 1 small bowl
  • Crackers and bread – 1 assortment

Method

STEP 1
Let the cheeses warm slightly and fold the charcuterie into loose ribbons rather than laying everything flat. The board looks fuller that way and the slices are easier to grab without pulling the whole pile apart.
STEP 2
Wash the grapes and figs and cut the figs into wedges. Put the honey and jam into small bowls and keep the dried apricots and nuts ready as sweet, chewy and crunchy fillers.
STEP 3
Set the cheeses and meats on the board in alternating sections so guests naturally move between them. Tuck the fruit and dried fruit into the spaces and finish with the nuts and bowls.
STEP 4
Bring the board to the table with crackers and good bread nearby. It should feel like an apéro board with contrast, not a platter where every bite tastes the same.
