Steamed Rice for Rijsttafel

Fluffy white rice is the calm center of a busy rijsttafel and lets all the spicy, creamy and crunchy dishes shine around it.

Serves: 4 people

Preparation time: 14 min

Ingredients

  • Long-grain rice – 300 g
  • Water – 450 ml
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Pandan leaf (optional) – 1

Method

Rinse the rice until the water is almost clear and drain it well.
Put the rice, water, salt and optional pandan leaf in a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
Lower the heat, cover the pan and cook very gently for 12 minutes without stirring.
Turn off the heat, let the rice steam for 10 more minutes, then fluff it with a fork before serving.
