Classic Dark Chocolate Fondue

Rich, glossy and endlessly dippable, this is the kind of chocolate fondue that makes strawberries, cake and marshmallows disappear in minutes.

Serves: 6 people

Ingredients

  • Dark chocolate – 400 g
  • Double cream – 250 ml
  • Milk – 100 ml
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tsp
  • Strawberries – 300 g
  • Banana slices – 2 bananas
  • Marshmallows – 200 g
  • Pound cake cubes – 300 g

Method

Prepare all fruit, cake, cookies or marshmallows before you start the fondue so everything is ready to dip as soon as the sauce is smooth.
Place the main ingredients in a heatproof bowl over barely simmering water, or melt them very gently in a heavy saucepan. Stir in the cream, milk and vanilla as the chocolate softens so the mixture melts evenly and stays glossy.
Stir until the mixture is completely smooth and glossy. If it looks too thick, add a small splash of cream or milk; if it is too thin, let it reduce for a minute.
Pour the dark chocolate fondue into a fondue pot or warm serving bowl and keep it just warm enough to stay fluid without scorching.
Serve straight away with the prepared dippers and stir from time to time so the dark chocolate fondue stays silky.
