A simple Cherokee-style corn soup with beans and smoky richness that tastes honest, filling and ideal for cool evenings.

Ingredients
- Dried hominy or large hominy kernels, soaked – 300 g
- Cooked beans – 200 g
- Smoked pork or smoked turkey, diced – 250 g
- Onion, chopped – 1
- Water – 1.5 l
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Black pepper – 1/2 tsp
Method
Drain the soaked hominy and put it in a large pot with the water.
Bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer gently for about 1 hour until the kernels begin to soften.
Add the onion and smoked meat and continue cooking for 30 minutes.
Stir in the cooked beans and simmer until the hominy is tender and the broth tastes rich.
Season with salt and pepper.
Serve the soup hot in deep bowls.
