Cheddar and Chive Scones

These fluffy savory scones are lovely with butter, ham or smoked salmon and give the coffee table a tearoom feel with a salty twist.

Serves: 8 people

Preparation time: 15 min

Ingredients

  • Flour – 300 g
  • Baking powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – 0.5 tsp
  • Butter – 75 g
  • Cheddar – 150 g
  • Chives – 2 tbsp
  • Milk – 180 ml
  • Egg – 1

Method

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Stir in most of the cheese and the chives. Add the milk and mix quickly into a soft dough. Pat the dough out to about 2.5 cm thick and cut out rounds. Place them on a lined tray, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until risen and golden. Cool slightly before serving.
