Homemade falafel gets crisp outside and tender inside with much less oil in the air fryer.
What is air fryer falafel?
Falafel are spiced balls made from chickpeas or fava beans. In the air fryer they get a crisp outside with less oil than deep-frying. Serve them with salad, bread or a fresh sauce.
Serves: 4 people
Preparation time: 45 min
Ingredients
- dried chickpeas – 1 1/2 cups, soaked overnight
- onion – 1 small, chopped
- garlic – 2 cloves
- parsley – 1/2 cup
- ground cumin – 1 tsp
- ground coriander – 1 tsp
- all-purpose flour – 2 tbsp
- olive oil spray – as needed
- salt – to taste
- black pepper – to taste
Method
STEP 1
Drain the soaked chickpeas well and blend them with the onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, flour, salt and black pepper until finely chopped but not smooth.
STEP 2
Shape into small patties or balls and chill for 20 minutes.
STEP 3
Spray lightly with oil and air fry at 375°F for 12 to 14 minutes, turning once, until crisp and browned.
